Flight-Lieut Hook, RAF and Miss Ryan
Flight-Lieutenant Robin Hook, RAF, only son of Mr and Mrs E.M. Hook, of The Croft, Beaconsfield Road, Bickley, was married on Monday at the Parish Church of St Jude, Mapperley, Nottingham, to Miss Mazie Doreen Ryan, only daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Ashwood Ryan, of Mapperley.
The bridegroom, who took part in one of the first raids on Berlin, had as best man Flight-Lieutenant Eric Randall, D.F.C., his comrade in many raids over Germany.
The ceremony was performed by the Rev. H. Taylor, Vicar of the parish, assisted by the Rev. F.D. Seddon, assistant priest. Appropriate nuptial music was played by the organist, and the customary wedding hymns were sung.
The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a two-piece ensemble in red and with hat to match. She also had a spray of lilies of the valley and carried a Prayer Book.
After the ceremony a reception was held at the George Hotel, Nottingham, where relatives and friends of both parties had assembled. Later, Flight-Lieutenant and Mrs Robin Hook left for Amersham in the Penn country, the bride travelling in a camel hair travelling coat with hat to match.
Flight-Lieutenant Robin Hook is an Old Boy of Bromley County School. He belonged to the Bromley Swimming Club, more a Kent County Swimming Club badge and won the County School championship for swimming and diving. He is also a keen rugby player, and before joining the RAF in 1938, was a member of the Orpington Rugby Club.
He is an operational pilot of considerable experience, and as stated he and the best man have taken part together in a number of bombing raids over Germany and enemy occupied….
